Understanding Stability and Change for Community Sustainability and Growth.

Abstract:

Every community maintains some stable features that enable its stakeholders to identify it as distinct from other communities and from its environment. Communities have many built-in mechanisms to insure this stability. In a continuously changing environment, change becomes inevitable over time. Long living communities learn to carefully balance stability and change. In this talk we will describe some of the mechanisms that work toward and against change and discuss ways of dealing with them to improve the chances of long term success.
